How much do auditions cost?
Auditions for TCI 2010 are free of charge.
What can I audition for?
TCI is auditioning for all positions. We are accepting auditions on Snare, Tenor, Bass, Cymbal, Mallet Percussion, Multi-Percussion, Drumset, Guitar/Bass, Synthesizer, and Electronics.
What should I bring or prepare for the audition?
Equipment will be provided, and the needed music will be made available at the sessions. Bring sticks/pad, your sweet chops and a smiling face.
Can I be in TCI and in college?
Yes, you are encouraged to be in school or have a job while performing with TCI. Rehearsals will held during the weekend, with sectionals on weekdays only at a section leader’s discretion.
Rehearsals will generally consist of Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sunday afternoons. Please refer to the official schedule when posted for exact dates.
Can a high school student and be a member of TCI?
Yes. With the high level of music education in the Central Florida area, we are very open to young talent joining the ranks. However, if your high school offers a scholastic indoor drumline, TCI will not pursue your membership. If your current high school does not have an indoor program, you are welcome to audition for a spot with TCI. All high school students must be in good standing with high school program.
Participating in the weekly audition sessions is a great way to learn new techniques, gain a positive educational percussion experience, and understand what is expected for members of TCI. Everyone is welcome to attend the audition rehearsals, even if you are participating in your high school indoor drumline.
What are the age requirements?
Anyone 22 or younger through March 31, 2010 is eligible to join TCI or any independent percussion ensemble. If you turn 23 on or after April 1st, you are in the clear.
How much are dues for TCI?
Once the dues are determined for the year, they will be posted. Payment due dates will be scheduled throughout the season for those who cannot pay in one lump sum. Fundraising opportunities may be available throughout the season.
The first dues payment must be made at the December 5th camp in order to secure your position.
TCI does everything possible to keep dues low and mitigate expenses. Our instructional and support staffs largely donate their time. Dues must be paid in full by the required due dates or you will be dismissed from the ensemble.
What other expenses do we have throughout the year?
Not included in the membership dues are expenses like TCI t-shirts, and any shoes needed for your performance (approx $35). You will be responsible for meals during camp weekends, and on performance trips.
Also, if you have marched TCI or another group in a previous season, please make sure you do not have any outstanding debt or obligations such as money, equipment, uniform, etc.
What is the rehearsal and performance schedule for the season?
After auditions, there are rehearsals and performances nearly every weekend for the duration of the season, including during holiday breaks. The full calendar for the 2009–2010 season will be posted in the next few weeks. Note: The calendar is subject to change depending on changes in practice venues, additional performances, etc.
Can I still teach a high school program?
Yes, we hope that you would have an interest in educating younger students, and there are often those opportunities. Becoming part of TCI, you will realize all members involved make many sacrifices.
Attendance at camps is mandatory. Even with teaching other groups, one must understand and respect your commitment to be a performer with TCI. School related activities that are a part of the grade for the class and family emergencies have been excused in the past. Time management of your family, school, work and social schedules need to allow you to attend every rehearsal.
